Shuang gou is world famous for its liquor and the Drunk Ape. In spring 2002, the Shuanggou Liquor Industry joined the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, China Academy of Science and held an on-site investigation on Shuanggou Drunken Ape. Led by UNESCO, 103 archaeologists from all over the world including Liu Dongsheng, Sunshu and other 4 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gathered in Shuang gou, and discussed the theme of “Heaven, Earth, Human” and also examined the local ecology and evolution conditions of ancient human beings. It was concluded that Shuanggou had been the platform of palaeobios evolution, the placenta for mankind, and most importantly Shuanggou was the best natural place to brew the liquor, which confirmed the ancient legend of ape making liquor in Chinese historical documents. It was awarded A cultural relic of Drunk Ape from Shuang gou and selected as China Food and Cultural Heritage in 2005
